Copernicus
Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 9:28AM I've always wanted to build an adventure game. I used to love playing games like Riven and Myst. Any of those high-res graphic adventure games with great puzzles and storylines. So, I'm taking a break from the shoot'em ups. I've started work on "Copernicus One". An adventure set in the not to distant future. A bit of a play on words for a well known 70's film. Inspiration for the adventure game environment have been drawn from this film (1st class Indie Sci-Fi), this film (no surprises there), this film and this book! :) ... As the links and references imply, the Moon and it's visible "Copernicus" crater are important to the story.
I'm using the much praised "Sunburn" graphic engine rather than trying to develop my own. It has cost me a few pence, but I think the time it will save me and ease of implementation will pay divends in the long run.
I'm going to use first person mechanics for the game. Hoping to make all the puzzles part of the environment. There will be no puzzle instructions beyond basic controls.
Given the graphical intensity of such a project, it is going to take me a long time to realise the full story. So, Copernicus One will be the first set of locations.
